Organization Facts
Tri Delta International Sorority was founded on November 27, 1888 by our founders Sarah Ida Shaw and Elanor Dorcas Pond at Boston University.
Founded by women of great vision, Tri Delta was the first women’s fraternity to become a national organization with plans for governmental structure and expansion, and the first to develop successful alumnae chapters. Delta Delta Delta was founded in 1888 on Boston University’s Campus by Sarah Ida Shaw and Eleanor Dorcas Pond. They made it their goal to “found a society that shall be kind to all and think more of a girl’s inner self and character than of her personal appearance.” With these ideals in mind, more than 200,000 women have pledged their loyalty to Delta Delta Delta.
Nationally, Tri Delta joined with St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in 1999 to begin raising money for children suffering from cancer. With a goal of “10 in 10,” Tri Delta members across the country are dedicated to raising $10 million dollars in 10 years to build the Tri Delta Patient Care Floor in the St. Jude Hospital. So far, Tri Delta members have raised over $2.5 million. In addition, Tri Delta is also committed to helping local children’s cancer charities.
Our colors are silver, gold and blue. Our symbols are the pearl, the pine, the pansy, and the dolphin
